on the road again for AAPI mental health
grateful for great connecting opportunities in the DMV, NYC, and ATL
Dear friends and prayer partners, thank you for staying connected with CAMH (Christian Asian Mental Health) here. This will be a shorter update because I am having to do a lot more prep work than I anticipated. (Or, maybe I’m just working slower than I used to and it’s taking more time to do what I used to do faster.)
DJ Chuang will be on the East Coast and he’d love to connect with you in person at any one of these opportunities near you:
Mental Health Conference on November 4 in the DMV
Chinese Bible Church of Maryland (in Rockville, Maryland) is hosting its inaugural Asian American Community Mental Health Conference on Saturday, November 4th. It’s my Mom’s home church and they were so kind and gracious to invite DJ Chuang as one of their speakers. Get more info & register at bit.ly/AACMHC
CAMHxCWA Meetups in NYC on November 6-8
Next stop is going to a KACF event called Nonprofit & Foundation Leader Convening. I'll be attending with a friend, Pastor Jin Lee, who runs a nonprofit in Atlanta called Catalyst Coalition. He's a great encourager to me as I continue my efforts with Christian Asian Mental Health.
To expand our collaboration nationwide for AAPI mental health, CAMH has become a program of Catalyst Wellness Alliance, housed under Catalyst Coalition. And, this is a brand new work in progress; more news to come.
While we’re in New York City, we would love to connect with you in person, share a meal, and chat about AAPI, faith, mental health, and generosity. See this page for our meetup times & locations at https://tally.so/r/n08yjN and RSVP to let us know you’re coming!
Atlanta for AAPI, faith, and mental health
Finally, we will be in Atlanta from November 9 to 13. We’ll get to scheduling things soon; our calendar is mostly open at the moment. First come first serve? Email me dj@catalystwa.org or text me 949-243-7260 to meetup.
By the way, on Saturday November 11th, we’re attending this virtual National Summit with Mustard Seed Generation for AAPI mental health professionals and graduate students. We’d encourage you to consider attending too!
Where does our help come from, like for funding?
Thanks for all who prayed about our AAPI mental health grant inquiry. The John Templeton Foundation has decided not to invite a full proposal for our project. Then, we just found out how this round of grant inquries were record-setting: John Templeton Foundation Receives Record 3,109 Requests for Funding and only 125 of all those inquiries were invited to submit a full proposal. I think we might have been number 126; oh so close. :)
Please join us in praying for sources of funding that can enable and empower the urgent work of AAPI mental wellness.
Could This Be a Billion Dollar Idea?
May I think out loud? For a most recently inspired idea, something big could happen at the intersection of Asian American, Christian faith, and philanthropy & generosity. Read about a big idea for growing more generous Asian American Christians together.
Here’s to staying connected,
